After an impressive showing in qualifying on Saturday Shinya Nakano lined up on the grid at the end of the front row, but after losing ground in the first corner accident he finished the race in with a solid result in seventh.
GP-class rookie Randy de Puniet had a difficult debut race as he injured his hand during free practice on Sunday morning and found that he was unable to brake as hard as he needed to once the race was underway. After running off the track at high speed the Frenchman decided it was safest to retire to the pits as the injury was causing him too many problems.
