Hi all,
Since Tourist Trophy lets you save replays to USB I've decided to start working on a mini-site which lets people download and share their replays.
So far I've got a few features in mind:
Organise by circuit, bike or 'tag'
Each replay can be assigned a tag eg 'MGPB - scooters at the Nurburgring!' and then all replays with the same tag can be viewed together.
Possibly also the option to add a photo to go with the replay.
The other possibility would be to include a lap time setting so it's possible to view the best lap times submitted at certain circuits and a certain bike, etc. The only problem would be that I wouldn't be able to test all the replays out myself to see if they are actually as quick as the time submitted says. I guess there could be a 'report this replay' feature or something similar to stop cheating.
Have you guys got any thoughts on what would be good/bad etc?
Cheers,
Dom

Sure sounds like a lot of work, thanks in advance for the efforts.
I suggest taking a look at what others have done for Grand Turismo, might give you some ideas. Here is one example (http://gt4.unixdoctor.com).
Cheers for that link, definitely a few interesting bits there. I'm hoping to be able to release a fairly basic site initially which is still useful and then any additional features could be added if there's demand. I've got a bit of code left over from something a little similar so fortunately I don't need to start completely from scratch. If it goes smoothly I'd like to have an first version online in less than a week... maybe exclusively for the TT fans on these here forums at first. ;)
(Nice new avatar, btw!)

I've had the same basic idea, recently. I would love to help anyway I can.
I was also thinking about just using the honour system for now. The only thing anyone gets from setting a fast lap time is bragging rights. Maybe when our little group gets bigger than we might have to implement some sort of electronic truth serum into the database. ;)
Thanks for the offer! I've been working on it quite a bit today and it's coming along quite nicely. Basically what I've got for now is 100% about replays and lap times don't yet feature at all. Once that is working ok I'm thinking of setting a lap times area which would be fairly seperate, only it would be possible to 'link' a submitted lap time with a replay so people could see just how it's done.
I think you're right about an honours system kind of setup being fine really, or at least at first. My current train of thought is that anyone can submit a lap time without a replay but maybe that to appear in the 'top five' rankings for a particular circuit for instance there would be a requirement, or maybe just for the #1 guy.
It'd be fun to have an overall championship table somehow but I'm not sure how that would work into things yet.
Hopefully I'll have the basics up and running in a couple of days, then I can send a link to you and whoever else fancies a sneak peek or to give their input. :)

Quick question... Do you think TT would recognize a PC as a really big usb memory stick if I just used a double ended usb cable? I don't have either, but the usb cable would be cheaper.

 Interesting idea! I've never used one myself so I'm not sure what each end is usually recognised as. I'd have thought it'd work more like an ethernet network cable dealie than anything else though. :?
I think eBay would probably be the best bet - you could probably get one of the 'small' 64-128mb ones dead cheap now as most people only seem to want the bigger sizes. 64mb would still be enough for thousands of replays and photos, which would probably do. ;)
I'm nearly there with the replays side of things now. I just need to finish off the search and code the registration stuff and it can go live. Which will definitely be tomorrow. :)
