View Full Version : Race my ghost!

MotoDude
13-04-2006, 05:40 PM
The next two posts to this thread have attached "best run" replay files. These files contain only one lap. Your mission is to beat the lap time and post the resulting lap.

For ghost racing to work, both you and the ghost have to be on the same machine.

To view: use replay theater. If you can view it you can race it.

To race: go into tourist trophy mode, climb aboard the bike, select practice, free run, load best run replay, select "motodudes hotlap", then start.

When you get to the starting line for the first time you will see me as the ghost. I will stay the ghost until you do a better time. Save your "best run" ghost data and post it here for me or someone else to beat.

Show me the fast way around!

Nice one. :D Will report back later. ;)

(Just a quick note - I've set the forum up so it should now be possible to upload the 'replay.dat' format replays without putting them into a zip file)

One less step. Nice.

Thanks Dom.

Ah. Turns out I've not unlocked the Fireblade RM bike yet. Or started the 'super' license. This might take a while. :P

(Lap looks annoyingly tidy, too! ;))

Jeez I'm pottering around on the SR400 cafe racer and having a ball!
Hmm maybe I can save that... this might work out quite well. Nice idea.

Dom

Hehe, having just spent ages doing the license to unlock the bike I think that's probably the better option.

After a quick couple of laps I seem to be able to be a bit quicker for maybe the first 1/4 of the lap, but after that lets just say I could use practice. :P

Yeah I can hit my lines nicely on the slower bikes but have difficulty recovering from small mistakes on the quicker machines. I think my limit at the mo' for nice, good looking laps is the RG500.
It's tough to find the time the game demands!

I have been using the R6 Race Bike to chase the CBR1000 replay... ;)

I can lap within a few seconds.. :)

Thanks, great practice tool.. hehe

It's tough to find the time the game demands!

Which is why I'm definitely not turning my PS2 on again for another couple of days after this morning. I don't know if it's just me, but once I loaded up that ghost I just thought 'damn, one more lap' every time I screwed up.

Anyway, Motodude - your Trial Mountain time has now been beaten. ;)

Previous Time: 1' 35.987
New Time: 1' 33.994 (I'm not sure how I did that either :P)

To be fair I did manage to get 2 wheels on the grass for very briefly at turn one but I can't do that time again so it'll have to do.

Outstanding!

I know what you mean by the "just one more lap" thing. Nothing worse than knocking off a perfect lap, but blowing the final turn and getting past by the ghost just feet before the line.

Did you get that nasty headshake at the top of the hill? I had several violent crashes at speed up there while the front end was dancing.

Oh man, where am I going to make up two seconds? This is going to be fun...

Dom

I'll tell you what is annoying and that's putting in a nice time, going to 'load best lap replay' to see if it was better than yours, realising it was and then going back to find the 'save best lap replay' option had disappeared.

Anyway if you can beat it I'm not even going to try and improve. I don't think I could squeeze another millisecond out of that lap time without spending about 24 hours straight trying.

Yep braking for that corner is evil. I ended up easing off the throttle a bit nearer the end as I knew I was onto a good time from the splits and didn't want to bin it there for the millionth time. The other nasty spot is the last corner, the 'flip flop' left-right one. I lowsided there more times than were funny. :P

Nasty head shake? I've binned it up there a couple of times. One really bad one, too! It was on the GSX-R 1000.

Two questions:
What tires are you using? Is that a 1000 that you used for those times?

I did a 1:19.877 on the Ducati 999R RM. But I was using a soft/soft set-up. I was also using a weak base setting for the suspenders, so I'll do some tuning.

MotoDude
14-04-2006, 09:20 PM
Yeah, it's the Honda CBR1000RR Race Modified bike that you can get in the challenge (not easily, BTW). I have not changed any settings yet, but I may have to if I want to beat Dom’s blistering lap.

I’ve yet to give the duc a try, having too much fun on the CBR. Did some hotlaps last night on the street version R6 on several tracks, will post replays when I get a chance. Been playing too much lately and have to catch up on work... :shifty:

If you guys want, I can turn your "Best of the Best" laps into Video Replays .... :)

Jeeeesus.  I used the same tyres as Motodude which I think were medium front and back. I can't believe soft/soft would be good for a 15 second improvement though that's insane. You do mean the Trial Mountain circuit? I'm going to have to try that now.

That would be class. :D Maybe if we had a kind of deadline and whoever's fastest then gets their lap converted to a proper video? I don't know how much effort it is per replay so totally up to you on that one really.

OK - during each "contest", y'all decide which of your own personal entrants are "Video replay" entrant worthy.

Then these contributions are turned into videos and we can "vote" on whose "Video Replay" is the most amazing display of spectacular and realistic-like riding. ;)

We can see whose Hot Lap makes for great TV viewing... :)

Trial mountain?! Ha! I'm an idiot. I thought those were for Deep Forest.
I guess I should try reading the posts more carefully before actually replying. :shifty:
I'll do a run on TM right now.

I thought a 1'19 was too quick to be possible! I had a brief go with the Fireblade RM bike at Trial Mountain with some soft tyres on earlier and there's definitely a quicker lap time to come than mine using those. Also I didn't realise but the standard brake settings are just 3/10 for power so if someone's got the patience to crash 50,000 times stoppying into corners then it'd probably be possible to go a few seconds faster. ;)

RC that sounds like the best plan, how does a 'deadline' of next Saturday sound for these two and then we can pick the best of the bunch?

I haven't been at the game at all today, so I don't remember what the exact time was, but I did a 1:32.5 or something on the duc with a medium/medium setup. I have the replay and I'll get my Xport going tommorow, so watch for it.

BTW It's as realistic looking as my riding will ever get.

Turns out you don't need an Xport for TT, you can transfer the replay directly to USB memory stick...

Dom, how is the replay database working out? Anything I can do to help? I know vbulliten, php, mysql, and a few other things. Maybe I can be of assistance somehow?

I have several new replays, just don’t know if I should keep attaching them to this thread or start a new one.

Dom
17-04-2006, 07:41 PM
Thanks for the offer Motodude, I might just take you up on that although I don't think the replays section is too far off now. Time's a bit tight atm but hopefully I can get it the main part of it up and running (maybe just for MGPB at first) in the next couple of days.

If anyone would like to share some new replays I'd prefer if they went in seperate topics for now as then it's easier to know who's talking about what times as well as generally making the boards seem nice and busy. ;)

Fish bate that sounds like an ace lap, look forward to seeing it!

Hey guys, I just signed up today because I saw a link posted on GTPlanet (which is unfortunately down at the moment). I've been doing some runs trying to decide what bike to use in the 600cc GTP championship that will be starting next week so I have saved my current best Trial Mountain lap. It's a little rough around the edges but I manage to keep the rubber and the flubber in the right places. I'm going back and forth between the ZX-6R and the Daytona 650 to see which one ends up with the fastest time to see which one I'm going to work with. Currently the Ninja is leading but the Daytona feels better around the corners so I'm confident there will be a few more races before I finally give up and make my choice.

ZX-6R RM '05

Edit:
Sorry, just noticed Dom's last reply. Since it's already here I won't mess with it but I'll refrain from posting any more in this particular thread.

Welcome to the boards. :) No worries about the replays you have uploaded to the boards - I should've turned off .dat uploads now the site's online but completely forgot. Personally I've not spent much time on the 600s but I would have thought it will come down to personal preference in quite a big way, although obviously the zx636 and Daytona 650 have the all important extra CCs.

Hopefully someone else can offer something a bit more useful.

Red Frog

I agree, mostly it is just personal preference. I'm sure once the races start someone is going to stomp me with some other bike. I figure the GSXR should handle the best but for some reason I keep tipping it and the others. I'm glad the Triumph is holding up well, always love the sound of those.

Just a quick question about the replay database if I may. Will we be able to edit or remove replays after we have uploaded them? Like say one specific replay is our best time for a track, no sense having an outdated hotlap cluttering things up.

Dom

I think at the least an edit replay feature would come in handy and will hopefully have the time to implement it soon. :)

Very good. Ace job so far, I really like the site. Hopefully this section will continue to grow as more folks discover TT.

Thanks, I hope it does. With the EU release around the corner there should be a quite a few more people getting their hands on TT in the next few months, too. :)
