View Full Version : 999R at Costa di Amalfi (aka 'threading the needle')

Of the replays Motodude uploaded yesterday I figured that the Costa di Amalfi (http://www.ttbikesim.com/community/single.php/34) one would be most fun to try and beat, and having loaded up the replay I don't think it will be easy either.

After a couple of laps all I've succeeded in doing is falling off. A lot.

Anyway, the download link is here (http://www.ttbikesim.com/community/files/replays/ducati/999rfilaracingmodify/399832/REPLAY.DAT) and the time to beat is 2'15.245.

The track's mad and so's the bike, so there should be some sweet replays from this.

Scuse me? :shifty:

That little rise in the road is a real bugger. Kept getting too much air and things would go very wrong real fast. Took forever to get a clean lap, well, clean if the curb does not count. ;)

Just did a 2'12 and that included a crash. Sub 2'10 should be very doable. ;)

That's one of those scary tracks in GT4...in TT it's absolutely crazy.

I'm picturing grease smears along the walls from those riders who who were thinking, "Just a little quicker here..."

Ah, but crashing in video games doesn't hurt. :D ;)

After lots of quite probably fatal incidents I managed a fairly clean lap with a time of 2'09.078. I've uploaded it to the replays site here (http://www.ttbikesim.com/community/single.php/35). Tbh I think I was saved by the wall a bit on one corner but overall it's sort of 'tidy' considering the lap and bike combination. :P

Got some pics, too!

ack ... i was thinking the road 999r was being used for the madness before i saw the pictures :p

im still addicted to valencia (my new nordschliefe in way since im not too comfortable there in TT atm) but, i could probably give this a shot.

Did a 2:08.499, but I hit the wall twice so I call it no good. I'll keep trying for a clean one...

Go for it. The more competition the better. :D

Admirable. ;) I reckon a second or two could be shaved off my time, but it might be down to who's most patient.

well, i did a few laps and managed a 2.15.3 with a crash ... those jumps ruin the track for me :(

When I read this thread I knew I had to have a bit of fun before bed.

You bastards are insane, I don't figure I would have ever run this bike on this track had I not stumbled in here. Anyway see if this tickles you in the right spot.

Sweet one Red. That's gonna be tough to beat...

Thank you, but I think you should be able to catch it after a few runs. There were at least 4 spots I really messed up at. Two I braked too hard and the bike swerved a bit and I seriously crawled around those last two hairpins.

Just got to worry about that first jump. I find if you are pressing forward at launch, and pressing back for the landing (but not too long, don't want to wheelie) it helps to keep the rear tire planted and not spinning.

Just watched your replay, RF. Very nice lines! Am I right in thinking that's in 'standard' or 'semipro' mode? It just seemed to 'stick' very nicely. If that was in pro mode then that is some insanely good brake & throttle control! :)

Man, I am not even going to post my time here...suffice to say, the rest of you could have stopped at the trackside bistro and ordered lunch before I finished a lap...:P

Nicely done, Red Frog

Yeah it's semi-pro. I come from THQ's MotoGP where leaning forward actually tucks the rider down. Since there's a "tuck" button in TT it takes up my rear braking finger. :(

I just need to figure out how to get more fingers. Know any good biogenetic engineers?

I'll try it pro in a bit, no clue what I'll use for rear brake though. Maybe I can work it into the left thumbstick for some wild crashes.

Edit:
Oh man, unrestricted throttle control! I should have gone pro a long time ago. I'm even faster around the first half of the track. Just got to work on those hairpins.
Once we can update the replays I'll have a Ninja at 2'09.909 to show. It's kind of ugly near the end though, I make passionate love with a wall.

i just uploaded a 2:04.335 (http://www.ttbikesim.com/community/single.php/123) (pal/europe) done in standard mode

i was very lucky over the jump up the hill after turn 1

es nes

i hope you dont mind if i use a r6 rm instead? with the lighter bike, the jumps arent much of an issue, just the last two corners.

2'10.710 fastest lap so far. i could do a 2'09 if i could get the last two corners right as ive been up by 1.3 seconds only to crash in one of the hairpins because the bike stops turning. throttle and rear brake inputs do nothing :(

2'09.210 ... probably could go another second faster, but, im not sure i want that frustration ;)

OK Up The Ante 2:03:155

Got a couple of feet of air on the first jump and VERTICAL 8O
95% of the lap is spot on, Touched the wall breaking hard going into the 4th hairpin and lost a tenth or two up the hill as off line through the left and rights.

Semi Pro - Soft Soft
PAL REPLAY

Those are some ridiculous lap times guys, how the hell are managing that? Annoyingly I can't watch the PAL ones, but if anyone's got an NTSC one I'd like to see it.

lots of brakes an balls, You can take both jumps wide open. If i had one of the USB things i would put mine up. I will hopefully buy one soon.
