View Full Version : If you could have any bike...
... what would it be? You can't have two, but money's no object.
For me it would currently be between a Ducati 749, an Aprilia Tuono and a Honda XR 400 (Not so fancy, but I'd love to start doing enduros).

Ducati 888 superbike
its funny, but a lot of the older bikes appeal to me, most of the modern machinery just isnt really "special."
My local Ducati dealership have got an 888 in with a very similar paintjob to that. I can't remember the exact price but it was definitely north of £10,000.
I do quite like the Benellis, but I don't like breaking down. ;)
callaghan 24-05-2006, 05:13 PM just cuz i had it doesnt mean i would ride it...
nahhh, i would ride the hell out of it, down to the repair shop...lol
i like them cuz its something different. its not the same regurgitated japanese stuff.
I can totally see the appeal, definitely. I just wouldn't fancy having a bike that I wasn't sure would start when I needed it to. If I had a car and a few other bikes going spare it would definitely be a different situation. ;) First stop - Aprilia RS250.
callaghan 24-05-2006, 05:26 PM ya know, its real hard to say what bike, if you could only have one, you would like to have. i absolutely love two-smokes... the 250 is a mean machine man. my kind of bike, i like the corners more than the straight. its not so much the speed i dont like, its the sudden stop and the end...
NoQuarter 25-05-2006, 11:40 AM My old bike...

My old bike...
3 header pipes? 600cc? Well I'm at a loss (too young ;)) for that. Enlighten me?
callaghan 25-05-2006, 04:26 PM looks like a '72 or so h1-d...maybe an h1-e or f from 74, or 75??
thats a nice vintage.
I think you're probably right, I just thought the H1/H2s were 500s and 750s. Maybe my eyes aren't working right.
callaghan 25-05-2006, 05:08 PM i think they made them in just about every size from about 450 to 750. but these are older than i am, so i may be wrong. it was more of an educated guess really.
Think it was a pretty good one. If it wasn't for Google I don't think I'd have been anywhere near the mark.
NoQuarter 25-05-2006, 05:18 PM It's a '72 Mach III H1 500 cc triple two stroker...scary bike in it's day. I could beat anything through the first 3 gears included the vaunted (at that time) Z1, until the 750 came out...that one was truely a widowmaker.
Mine had expansion chambers, so it made a bit more than the stock 58 HP.
The design (2 stroke triple) came in a 250, 350, 400, 500 (H1) and 750 (H2). Awesome bikes. WIsh I still had mine, even though they're illegal to drive on the road.

do these bikes have to be road going or not?
If not a suzuki RGV500 in the Pepsi colours would be nice
do these bikes have to be road going or not?
Well going by my bank balance this is definitely all in the realms of fantasy, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
de-retricted rc45. 90hp out of a one off special? pfft, please ;)
Having spent 6,000 miles on one, my next bike would be the RC40 (NR as posted a little further up the page).
Remember too, that the "restriction" on the road going RC45 was simply to comply with then produciton rules - the full unrestricted PGM module is part of the stock PGM system - simply snipping one wire and shorting 2 others let the bike rev-out to 12,500 rpm and put the power at about 115rwhp with the Yoshimura titanium headers and end can.
The next jump, to about 150rwhp requires race PGM/ECU and heads, cam, injector and intake changes - oh, only about $20,000 for the Stage 1 HRC Kit
But then again we are talking imaginary budget, so RC40 I throw a leg over would need to be similarly kitted... hehe:D
callaghan 31-05-2006, 10:56 PM i likey...how did you get to ride one of those?? lotsa money, or do you work at honda?:shifty:
es nes 01-06-2006, 12:00 AM rc45 - do you mean the rc30?
if i cant have the rc45, a kitted honda rs250 or mv agusta brutale 910 with custom ecu (hear it has on/off switch like throttle respounce), radial mounted brembo brakes and f4 style exhaust with wheels off the top of the line f4 :D
es nes 01-06-2006, 12:02 AM i likey...how did you get to ride one of those?? lotsa money, or do you work at honda?:shifty:
yeah ... i thought all 50 that ended up in the us ended up in the hands of hrc NA to use is ama superbikes.
can i add a r7/1 to my list? :D
callaghan 01-06-2006, 12:50 AM yeah, haga's r7 from back in the day would be nice.
O.T. a few races ago i heard that haga actually put his old R7 forks on his current r1 wsb bike. he was running good up toward the front, and he lowsided, i forget which race, maybe monza? then supposedly, after that race he switched back to his current r1 forks.
callaghan 01-06-2006, 12:59 AM es nes: i believe that the RC40 was honda's designation for the NR750N.
rc45 - do you mean the rc30?
es nes: i believe that the RC40 was honda's designation for the NR750N.
callaghan is correct - the RC40 is the NR.
If someone else finances it, the NR would be my weapon of choice - If I was to finance it, it would be a toss up between the RC30 and RC45.
es nes 01-06-2006, 07:37 PM interesting, this is the first time ive heard the nr750 refered to as an rc.

No - very few ended up on the track - in fact non of the bikes after 003 went directly to competion (if at all).
The AMA rules are very specific "For sale to the public" - not "Imported then all raced"
003 though 053 were sold via dealer then either re-exported of as 2 are, still new on dealers floors as of about 2 yeasr ago.
I need to revive my old website - I used to run the RC45 registry for a while.
Ther are acouple that come up for sale regular;y, but he guys want $25K or more so they wont sell - the others are probably available for about $18 to $20K if you find the guys in a good mood.
The thing is that almost all the remaingin chassis in the US are now owned bu folks who have at least 1 other 45 and a 30 or 2.
My ex-bike, #20 is part of a bike stable that include 2 RC30's and 2 R45's.
See the guys with really deep pockets have at least on to look at (often with 0 miloes) and one to ride [:P]
callaghan 02-06-2006, 12:04 PM i likey...how did you get to ride one of those?? lotsa money, or do you work at honda?:shifty:
just curious, i thought you had to work at honda to get one at first, or had to have a boatload of cash...
if im hitting a touchy subject let me know and ill drop it.
Big_Ham 02-06-2006, 01:40 PM boat loads of money will get one. Apparently one was swapped for a house in Ireland. Honda UK have 1 at there factory.

Not at all.
The 1994 RC45 was a regular import to the USA, nothing special or unique other than only 50 bikes, alloacted to 50 dealers around the USA.
You needed the $27,000 MSRP to walk out the door with one in 1994, but other than that - nothing extra ;)
I purchased #20 in early 2000 for an undisclosed but rather large sum of money. Less that $27,000 but more that $1,000 :P
I just had to have it - it was bone stock, only 800 miles on the odo and it kept calling out my name and saying "Buy me - buy me".
I posted a video me riding the offending beast a while back - didn't I?
[edit ] Yep i posted it in the "Do You Ride" thread.
Here is a video I put together just before I sold the RC45...

callaghan 02-06-2006, 05:58 PM sorry, i meant the rc 40. you said you had 6000 miles on one... i have always wanted to ride one, since the day i first saw it.
p.s. i am much more educated now than i was when i was 11...
sorry, i meant the rc 40. you said you had 6000 miles on one...
uhm - must be confusion - I have 6,000 miles on an RC45 - not an NR... ;

?
callaghan 04-06-2006, 12:50 AM Having spent 6,000 miles on one, my next bike would be the RC40 (NR as posted a little further up the page).
having re-read that, i realize now you meant the rc45. i thought you were saying that since you spent 6000 miles a one(rc40), thats what your next bike would be.
sorry, i meant that when i was 11, i thought it was the "coolest" bike cuz it was made with a lot of carbon fibre, and it looked cool. now i know a lot more about it, oval pistons...etc. and thats why i like it now.
isaac8317 04-08-2006, 07:55 AM Mine would be a 2006 CBR1000 RR with carbon fiber farrings painted in the "Repsol" RC211V scheme. Except the navy blue parts, letters and the wings would be exposed carbon fiber. Acustom made carbon kevlar frame and sub-frame You as if the fiber was masked off and painted over then the tape removed. the orange would be a pearl metalic orange. I would have the GP style hi-cap tank installed as well. Next I would have a full Akrapovic exhaust system...carbon pipe with titainium tubing with heat tape under the farings a power comander and integrateded rear stop light with LED turn signals in the light. I would also have flush mount signals in the from as well. I'd put a gel seat on it and a smoked wind screen. i would also remove the hiteous fender and mount the plate flush on the undertail section. I would also remove the hugger. Next I would have the swing arm powder coated black install Brembo brakes and Marcshesini magniesuin whells painted in pearl orange to match the bike. I would also polish the ports and install race cams and piston kit. I would also throw on a rear set of race pegs and remove the passenger pegs. Lastly I would dith the mirrors for som e carbon fiber low profile mirrors or and a full OHLINNS suspension set.

SKINNYHIPPY 04-08-2006, 09:55 AM isaac - now you're talking !
personally i would go for a MV Senna F4
isaac8317 04-08-2006, 06:44 PM Oh yeah I got to see one of those in person at GP Motorsports here in San Diego. Let me tell you man......pictures do not do that bike justice. Oh have you seen the new F41000R?
drillah 05-08-2006, 05:35 AM Did someone say they want'ed and NR750?
Did you place your bid? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-RC40-Honda-NR750-RC40-RC30-RC45-Exotic-Superbike_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6708QQihZ005Q QitemZ150015935041QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
The bike I'd like to have is the Bimota Tesi. Some say it's ugly; I say its engineering artwork at its best.
isaac8317 05-08-2006, 06:40 AM Yeah that is sweet looking Bimota. WOW 69,000 dollars as the starting bid on the NR750!!!!!!....Oh wait I'll be back guys I have to take my wallet to the emergency room for heat attack treatment, LOL.
spudboy 08-08-2006, 05:07 PM honda nr750, always lusted after one when i was younger, then a guy near me had one, drool!! back then it was super advanced  worth a fortune now!!
v4
8 valves per cylider
oval pistons
8 con rods
8 spark plugs
32 valves in total
isaac8317 10-08-2006, 03:12 PM If I had to pick a factory bike it would be the MV Agusta F41000S Tamburini with the race kit installed.
Did someone say they want'ed and NR750?

Although I do think the Tesi's pretty impressive, it does seem a bit... well, messy, to me. But then I'm big on nice lines, so I'm bound to be confused when a bike doesn't have any. ;) That said I do love the Aprilia Tuono, which is quite similar in some ways.
isaac8317 27-08-2006, 04:50 AM Heres some photoshoping of an R1LE with Akrapovick exhaust pipes added.
This is a hard question to answer as there are so many bikes out there that I would give my right arm to own (how I would be able to operate the damn thing, I'm still working on). For street use I would say the new Ducati Desmosedici RR. For track use would be Mich Doohan's '99 NSR500 machine. And for pure rarity, its a toss up between the NR750 and the Britton.
Yamahamer-AL 19-10-2006, 06:26 PM are you kidding!?!...Bikes are likr chicks...you can never have enough!
ok.....what bike/bikes?
70's Kawi KZ 1000.. (mainly the one GOOSE had in Mad Max! love that bike.)
68 Norton Camando
70's Honda 750 four, (cafe stlye of course)
NSR500
Yamaha R7
yamaha R1 LE or SE
too many more to answer!
Matt W. 22-10-2006, 12:36 AM Close favorites, bike that are obtainable, sort of...
