Hi folks, just popped over from Gran Turismo by the Numbers after Dom did some shameless trolling ;) .

Like the look of the site and the forum, so I thought I'd do a quick introductory 'hello'. I've got TT on pre-order with Amazon, can't wait to get my hands on it!

I did what?! Why I don't recall doing anything of the sort... :shifty:

Jk, welcome to the boards. ;) Is that a babyblade I see in your avatar?

It's out in, ooh just a couple of days now in Europe. It won't be long before I was wishing I'd waited for an EU copy so I wouldn't have to put the damn swap magic disk in every time I want to play the bloody thing.

swap magic disk??:eh: what is that? i was wondering how you got your times up.

It uses some kind of black magic to make it possible for NTSC games to be played on a PAL PS2 and vice versa. It also lets you play backup copies of games, which is handy.

Is that a babyblade I see in your avatar?

Certainly is, although I'm being a bit of a fraud there, as I sold it a couple of weeks ago sadly. Recent house-buying and a lack of spare time meant I couldn't really justify the expense of having a bike sitting on my drive going nowhere. Maybe sometime in the next few years I'll get a chance to buy another one and give this being a biker thing a proper go.

It'll have to be something small though, the 'Little' part of my name is carefully chosen and the CBR400 was the only thing that I could get my feet on the floor with. That's why I'm so excited about TT - even if I could afford one, I'd never be able to ride a Gixxer Thou, or a Ducati 999 because every time I came to a halt I'd fall over. A computer game is my best chance.

Amazon says they'll get it to me by June the 1st, but I'm hoping they're being their usual cautious selves with that...

I tell you what, you're not missing out on much so far this year with this 'drought' - it's raining non-stop.

The 400s are definitely not bad bikes to be 'stuck with', especially if they're just going to be used as a toy. That said, you might have a few more options if you looked at having a custom seat made? I've heard of some people doing that with the SV650. It's not a tall bike as standard, but if you take out some of the seat padding it can make all the difference between whether it's possible to get your feet down or not. Just a thought really. Although you wouldn't have any luck trying to remove the non-existant padding from a 999's seat.

When is the UK release date, it was tomorrow(26 May) but now i'm reading 2 June in more and more places......

Dom

Welcome to the boards BigHam. :)

I don't really know for sure when the UK release is now. The official date was the 26th but that was set quite a while back and like you say, some places are saying a week later now. Most of the online shops (amazon, gameplay, game) seem to be saying the 2nd now, so I'm guessing that it has slipped a week. :(

Big_Ham
25-05-2006, 07:19 PM
Well im going up to the shops tomorrow morning anyway lol. The playstation.co.uk website still has it as May, but not sure. I'll let you know.

And thanks...... thats my GSXR400 in my avatar btw. Still on a restricted 33bhp license though :(

It is indeed 2nd June, went round all the shops in Letcworth today, couldn't get it.

They may have put it back to coincide with the Isle of Mann TT, the first race is off on the 3rd June.

Going to pre-order tomorrow.:D

Nice bike. :) I'm surprised the restrictors haven't fallen out, they seem to do that quite often for some reason. :erm:

I talked to one of my mate's who works in a games shop yesterday and the release date for TT is now TBA, it doesn't have an official date although the assumption is this friday, just don't be surprised if it's put back again.

Dom

Really? Weird. I mean it's not as if much work ever had to be done converting the game from the NTSC-US version. :?

That GSXR400 is total horn. I'm jealous, even if it is restricted.
Waaaaay back in the day I bought a brand spanking new GSX400X Impulse (look it up, it was a pretty amazing little beasty) for NZ$4099. I think it was prolly 1986 or 7. Loved it. Just loved it to bits.
Wrote it off after 9 months at Ruapuna, the very track where John Britten developed his magical twin. Used to watch him and try to hang on to his slipstream round the corners. Some bloody hope. Threw my Impulse through a deer fence, bent the frame all to hell. A cobber picked up the motor and used it in a competitive F3 bike.
Anyhoo, Suzuki GSXR400s... what lovely bikes.

dam you :(

I'll have to go and scour tesco's again for it and all over Letchworth.

Yeah my GSXR is a bit of a loon, the motor is fine until around 10/12k where the restrictor starves it, but still handles like a dream.

callaghan
30-05-2006, 06:25 PM
big ham: just out of curiousity, what kind of restrictor does that thing have?? is it like a plate in the intake, or more sophiticated?? we dont have anything like that in the states that i know of, except for the really small atv, like 50 and 80-100 cc quads and dirt bikes.

Dom
30-05-2006, 07:49 PM
The majority of carbed bikes that get restricted usually have a 'kit' fitted consisting of small washers that go in the carb inlets, not what you'd call sophisticated.

More modern FI bikes tend to have a combination of throttle stops and some kind of electronic restriction, I can't remember exactly what.

Big_Ham
31-05-2006, 08:38 AM
yeah, it's washers in the inlet tracts of the carbs. Hopefully they will blow away over winter or ill get someone to machine then hole in the middle bigger.

http://img277.imageshack.us/img277/9849/restrictiononthegixxer4002sl.jpg

Not very sophisticated lol.

Dom
31-05-2006, 08:55 AM
Have you got the FI ones complete with certificate? If so I'd imagine you'd be pretty safe even if they did fall out - if you get a producer or anything like that you still have the document there if they ask for it (they probably won't, anyway) and the odds of anyone wanting to take your bike apart to inspect for them are pretty tiny. Got long left on the 2 year restriction?

callaghan
31-05-2006, 11:59 AM
WOW...that sucks man. that would have been the first thing i'd do to the bike. looks like the carburetion would ok, or even good til high rpm, then it would choke itself. i wonder if you would need a jet kit to get the fueling right after taking the restrictors out?

Dom
31-05-2006, 12:17 PM
The "official" installations (for which you receive a certificate which legally means nothing) simply add the washers afaik, no change of jetting at all. I would have thought it would be worth doing though, but I'm no mechanic.

Big_Ham
31-05-2006, 12:45 PM
yeah jetting is worth doing because the restrictors cause it to run rich and it when washes the bores, causing faster bore wear. Mine seems to run ok though i assume it was setup for them.

Nah i don't have the certificate.

They can just impound my bike if they want, then check the kit, then i gotta re-test, sky high insurance etc.

I've got about 20 months left, i passed on 16th of Feb.

Because it's import only it has a japanese restricted CDI to 112mph anyway.

I'll learn to corner well on it this summer, then maybe look at getting the washers machined over the winter so it will nearly be full power but when the police check, the washers will still be there ;-)

Back on topic briefly, got my copy through the post on Friday. Get in!

Went straight in at professional mode, and I'm struggling to adjust a bit after years of Gran Turismo, but I reckon I'll get there in the end...

Dom
04-06-2006, 08:48 PM
It's definitely a bit of a shock to the system compared to GT, but it all starts to make sense after a few hours. Should help that you've got some experience of bike lines, too. Once you have got a bit of a feel for things, do have a go at the current round of the championship we've got up and running.

If you do suck then all the more reason to join in - I might not have to come last for once. :D ;)

Big_Ham
05-06-2006, 08:16 AM
well ill join in as well then lol. i still need to find a way of getting pics/ replays from PS2 to PC, i don't have a flash drive, will a digital camera work?

Dom
05-06-2006, 09:10 AM
Anything with that can plug into the PS2s USB port is worth a shot I guess. If all else fails you could probably pick up a basic flash drive on ebay for £8 delivered or so.
