haha, to me F1 has really gone down hill. i think for me is started around 95, or was it 96, when they got rid of real slicks, and went with street radials...okay so they are really street tires, but the grooved slick thing for me was the start of the rules that kept making the series less interesting. i loved it when ford had the v-8, ferrari had a v-12, and was it bmw with the v-10??

yeah, everytime they try something new it seems, everything just gets more complicated. i say just let them race, let the fastest man win.

Spot on. Turns out I was wrong about qualifying too - it almost sent me to sleep. Was funny watching Schumacher 'crash' at the end of the session knowing that a red/yellow flag could help protect his provisional pole for the remaining few minutes, though. Have to hand it to the guy, he knows his game.

qualifying was today...damn, i have to be at work. maybe ill catch later on the tube. by "crash" i guess you mean he just kinda spun or something? since he was world champ for a while, he knows this very well. he is a very smart guy, and know how to political games.

(unrelated: the term tube is now out of date for the most part. with plasma and dlp etc...nothing uses "tubes" anymore)

No, it wasn't even a believable crash. You could see him pump the brakes to lock the rear up and then he just parked it a couple of inches from the barrier. No damage whatsoever, but he couldn't have rejoined from that position and as a result the yellow flags had to come out. Wise move, that's for sure.

What was funniest about it was they cut to the Ferrari garage afterwards and one of the mechanics was grinning from ear to ear and punched the air as he saw it - bet he got a ticking off from the boss afterwards.

go figure...when you use the rules to your advantage, you can get away with a lot.

reminds me of when mclaren used these special rear wings at monza one year (like ten or so years ago) where, the wings were flimsy enough to flex and "flatten out" at higher speeds, decreasing drag, but when the cars slowed down to take a corner, the wing was rigid enough that the downforce increased, and, well, the results were obvious...they went to a FIA approved type wing the following year.

well, shoemaker thought he got away with one, but in the end, he had his pole stripped and alonso fernando takes monaco pole. schumacher has to start from pitlane.

Funny stuff, eh? It really was so blatant, I'm not surprised they decided to punish him for it.

I caught a bit of the race and it didn't seem like much was going on. Big queues of traffic, the occasional car breaking down and perhaps 2 overtakes (which resulted in the typical "SEE! You can overtake at Monaco!!" from the commentators).
