a: sorry the image isnt as good as dom previous images and that the bike is a cbr600rr rm instead of the cbr1000rr rm.

b: since the race just now got posted, the race has been extended to friday the 9th.

c: on hard tyres, i managed a 1.30.8 with the 999r rm. youll probably be able to get away with medium tyres though since tyre wear wasnt noticeable until lap 6 or 7.

leaderboard:
callaghan 10.23.023 - 1.27.811
es nes 10.29.330 - 1.28.xxx

im down to a 10.29.x almost exactly 10 seconds faster. heh. fastest lap down to a 1.28. youd think the ducati with all of its torque would be fastest here, but, the brakes require me to start slowing down sooner than the other bikes.

[edit -
a: please see post 2 for leaderboard.

b: ill upload my better replay latter. i bumped an ai exiting turn 4 lap 1 on exit because the ai didnt accelerate out as hard as i thought it would and there seemed to be a bit more room on the outside of it than i thought. oops. ]

Fastest Lap: 1"30.381 on lap 5/7

Total Time: 10"58.871

Bike: Yamaha R1 RM

Medium Tyres, the rear was shagged by the end, sliding everywhere, but i tend to slide the rear coming in and spin it on the way out so it may just be my style.

may be your style, may be the set-up. i ride the rear pretty hard too, but with a good set-up, you can get a lot of traction on the exit.8O

I don't think I'm going to be able to sort an entry for this one. Had a few minutes spare yesterday to see if I could get anywhere and failed miserably, and today we are having yet another gorgeous summer day and there are some nice twisty roads waiting for me once I've finished work. TT's a great game, but the real thing wins hands down. ;)

well i've lost said replay now, sorry.......... been out riding the real roads too much to care frankly. Sunshine Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got that right. Had a reaaally good blast this afternoon on some great roads. There's way too much traffic down here but most of it can be dealt with quickly and with the minimum of fuss. ;)

(To all non-brits: we are currently experiencing the 2 week period of the year known to most as 'summer'. It doesn't happen often and it's all very exciting )

Sorry to hear you're bikeless atm callaghan, got anything else in the pipeline?

i am currently looking at a few bikes, namely 2000-2002 sv650's and the new daytona 675. i was looking at a yamaha fz1 (i think you guys call it a fazer), but after riding it, i was a little dissapointed. for such looks, it just doesnt have the package to back it up. im hoping the 675 triumph isnt the same way.

with how well the F1 did, im really tempted to pick up an F3 or F4i.

hey dom, you have an sv, right? how do you like it?

Yep I've got a 'curvy' SV650s and on the whole I like it. Compared to a fazer/fz1 it would be a bit lacking power-wise with only 70 odd bhp, though.

Good bits

If you like twins that can either be a great thing or a disaster. Mine does sound pretty good with the full micron system it has.

It's a pretty flexible bike, so you could use it for long distance stuff as well as going for a blast. That said, the 'S' bike is pretty hard on the wrists, although you do get used to it and there are loads of bikes out there that are worse for that.

They're pretty good value for money really and reliability should be pretty good.

Bad bits

It's a suzuki and a budget one at that, so the build quality's not brilliant. If you're using it in all weather then you'll have to keep it coated with wd40 and regularly give it a good clean. Over the winter two of the pistons on my front brake calipers seized, which is apparently a common problem with the SV, although hardly a disaster.

Back on the budget theme, the suspension is pretty poor for 'sporty' riding as it is very soft. A lot of people opt to put thicker fork oil in, harder springs or even a different (usually GSX-R) frontend. A mate of mine had an '02 bike and those have adjustable pre-load, whereas all of the earlier models (including mine) have no scope for adjustment at all. Personally I can live with it as it is, you just have to make the bike's settled before going into corners, maybe a little more than with other bikes.

Not sure what else there is to say about it really. Feel free to start a topic in the lounge if you've got any more questions... I'm starting to feel a little guilty about just how off topic this is all going. :shifty:

Hehe, it certainly comes to mind when we're in the middle of another dark, grey English winter. In the (brief) summer the UK can be a pretty cool place to be though. :)

It's still called the FZ1 in the UK, or FZ1 Fazer, or simply Fazer.... The 675 is amazing from what i have heard....

I nearly ended up in a wood yesterday, went barrelling into a corner nd was stamping on the back brake to get it stopped. The back then locked up and slid. So i let off, got a big bobble as the tyre gripped and made it round getting attacked by some trees which were over hanging lol. You live you learn, but i'll go and do it all again next weekend!!

Yeesh, rear brake? You're not Nicky Hayden! ;) My totally non-expert view would to to use the front brake for as long as you can get away with (unless you realise you've overcooked it mid-turn) and to just look through the corner. I mean I've got no idea how fast you would've been going but I wouldn't be surprised if it the bike would've been fine at that speed and it's just your own limits that were being exceeded... if that makes any sense.

Not trying to be patronising (hell I haven't got the right to be, I came off last year doing just that ) but it is instinct to go 'oh shit!' and brake if you feel like you're going too quick for a corner. Unless you already had your knee scraping along the ground and your chicken strips are a thing of the past then there probably was enough grip to make it round.

Just concentrate on looking where you want to go and the bike will go there. Panic and look at the trees you're worried about flying into head first and you will fly into the trees head first. Look through the corner to the piece of tarmac you want to be on and the bike will get there.

The back brake stuff is personal preference to an extent though I admit. If I'm going through some twisties I don't use it at all.

(Oh and yep, the 675 is meant to be the dog's danglies... although that riding position looks like an absolute killer to me. Probably amazing fun if you're just going out for a few hours to blow out the cobwebs though.)

yeah, the bike in my avatar was the one i just sold, and the back brake worked, but it would not release, so i just didnt use it at all. i wont preach about how people ride, cuz everyone has their own style, but pure physics dictates that when braking hard on a sportbike, the rear brake is basically useless (unless your like the aforementined hayden...)

ok, and yes it was mid corner, and yes it probably would have made it round, but a tightening corner with cars in front of you tend to stimulate the o shit gene a bit.

Back on topic, do we really have to upload replays it's a complete pain in the arse for me, i can't get hold of the drivers for my pen drive so they won't work on my computer so i have to kep using my m8's computer. I have Windows 98, he has XP.

No worries at all es, hell I still haven't updated the championship listings thread. :shifty:

On the subject of decent tracks - yep, the UK's pretty good for that. :D I've got Thruxton, Brands Hatch and Silverstone all within probably 2.5 - 3 hours (not been to Silverstone yet so that's a guess), so can't complain. Once I have a bit of cash together I'm hoping to do a few trackdays, although I don't much fancy my chances of managing it this summer.

Fortunately the forum software lets me view deleted posts, and frankly I think that the idea es deleted was a pretty good one. (Sorry!)

Would people be happy with replays only being a requirement for the top 3 finishers? Hell, I'm supposed to be running the championship and still haven't uploaded my round two replay if I remember right.

For future reference - if anyone thinks that rules X or Y don't make too much sense or could be improved, please say! I've got a pretty thick skin, I can take it. ;)

Edit: To clarify - times still must always be posted before a round finishes, I think that's only fair.

callaghan
14-06-2006, 12:06 PM
that would be fine with me. as a side note, the ttbikesim page says the top ten need a replay. plus, if things get out of hand, you could always make an amendment.
