as far as i know, he is still riding a 990cc machine, BUT...a lot of the parts on his bike are prototypes for next year.

welcome and introduce (http://www.motogpboards.com/showthread.php?t=17) yourself here if youd like.

Hayden is Honda's development rider and as a result has been riding what is basically next year's 800cc bike with the 990cc engine in it throughout the championship so far.

So in a way, yes he is riding a prototype 800cc machine, but we won't see any actual 800cc engines in a race until the 2007 championship kicks off next year.

So the brief answer would be 'nope'.

(Welcome to the boards btw :))

damn. those fools at Eurosport have cost me a pint. I'm sure Moody was saying how the new 800cc was 'markedly slower down the straight'

anyway - Hi everyone.

Hehe, it wouldn't surprise me if he said something along those lines, as it is a sort of half truth.

Eurosport commentary's still miles better than the BBC stuff imo. There's definitely the odd cringe-inducing moment in there though.

to be honest I really like the commentary on Eurosport. Esp Whitham - he's great. Funny as f*** and actually knows what he's talking about. But......

BBC has Perry !

 Very true! There is something to be said for watching the MotoGP intro on BBC and switching over to Eurosport afterwards. ;)

I think probably the WSB commentators are the best of the bunch, like you say Whitham's great at it and the other fella, Jack <name I can't spell> is really good too.

Anything is better than Kieth Sherwin (or whatever he's called) off Sky Sports 2 - he was crap. He talked a lot of sh**e and why does he call Niall McKenzie - Neil ? Surely if his name was pronounced Neil it wouldn't be spelt Niall ?

Or am I the idiot ?

Actually, I don't believe Haydon has ever ridden a MotoGP bike. Though he's highsided couple of 500cc GP bikes "well and proper"* and from what I've read is a decent BSB rider.

While Hayden does indeed ride a 990 RC211V and will be riding a 800 next year...

Yeah, I'm a smartass. :D

Lesson number one when being a smartass - make sure you're right beforehand. ;)

James Haydon to replace Kurtis Roberts in Qatar (2004) (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=100562) and 2004 section here (http://www.rizla-suzuki.co.uk/pages/common/crescent.aspx?art=23).

Actually - he's a fairly shite BSB rider - that's possibly a bit harsh but when he's 'on it' which isn't often - he's as fast as anyone. Possibly the un-luckiest man in the world tho which accounts for most of his problems.

I thank god for BBCs MotoGP coverage...I find Moody so annoying that I used to watch it with the sound off. Eurosports Superbike coverage is superb though.
Is it Keith Chegwin who commentates on Sky sports or the excellent Keith Huewen who preceeded the awfull Moody. I have to admit a preference for blokes that have raced in the past.

I love Toby and Julian's commentary, true bike fans while Randy Mamola's great as well. Hate the BBC's coverage though, Charlie Cox is absolute clueless.

I'm with you on that Diatribe. Toby and Julian have a slight tendancy to start talking bollocks but their passion always shines through, which is what I like in commentators. I find the Beeb's coverage very dull in comparison. They're really lacking in the "very much so" department, too.
