hi everyone, im new to this forum, i stumbled over it looking for information on a certain bike... i am looking forward to purchasing a new cb599 or hornet (depending on where you live) 2006 by Honda

i like the styling of it and i heard good things about honda (i need this bike for cheap insurance)

could you tell me the stats of the bike? including its hp, also if you could compare similar bikes maybe you can make my life a little bit easier

Thanks

You're in luck, just happends I have a '04 599. :D

The 599 essencialy has the CBR600 F3 engine and makes about 95BHP. Which translates to about 83rwhp on the dyno. I am not positive on the "spec" side, but the bike weights about 440lbs. fully fueled. The motor is a good 600 engine. It has decent pull from about 3Krpm and huns all the way to the rev limiter. Though it seems to weaken at about 11Krpm, but it doesn't tail off as bad as some other bikes. This engine is regarded as one of the most indestructable motors ever produced. If the European guys can't blow it up, it's gotta be pretty bullet proof...

Chassis is okay. It flexes as it is "old school" technology. But it's decent, just don't expect the bike to feel as sharp of a tool as the current 600's. Due to the chassis and relativly low end suspension, the bike gets a little "happy" at a knee down pace, but it's nothing that stops you from enjoying the bike. The bike's suspension runs out of damping in extreme situations, but then again, I am a fat ass.

Brakes are adequate, though now I wish they were a little stronger.

I use the bike as 90% commuter and 20% back roads toy. I like it. It did take me a little time to get use to the fact that it is NOT a sport bike, but it's not far off one, and as long as you remeber that and are open minded, you'll have a hoot.

Last by not least, before getting this bike, I couldn't wheelie a bike to save my life. Now, I'm actually getting pretty decent at it, for [once again} a fat ass. The bike has enough power that I would think with a normal weight person, should wheelie in 1st gear without any provocation. I do weight about 230lbs {105kg.} so the bike requires a wiff of clutch to get the front lofted. Once it's up though, it's pretty easy to control.

Callaghan has also ridden my bike, so he might chime in with some thoughts...

p.s. Yes, the insurance on it is dead cheap.

Yes, I also have a '98 ZX-6R that I use as a race/track bike.

599 would be a damn near perfect first bike. One modification I did to mine is to put Renthal low bars on it. It puts the riding position to a more sporty taste, and helps getting the weight over the front tire.

Welcome to the boards btw sachadesousa. :)

The Hornet should be a great first bike. Quite a bit of power for when you get a little more comfortable with riding, but all nice and manageable and nothing that's gonna snap your head off. Riding position should be pretty easy to get used to, though as Matt says, plenty of people opt to stick some Renthals on for that extra 'flickability' a little while down the line.

Let us know what you decide on, and if you have any other Qs feel free to post them here.
