View Full Version : MotoGP 4 callaghan 12-07-2006, 06:31 PM anyone have a go at this yet (Matt)?? care to share some thoughts. thinking about picking this one up and see how it compares to TT. Dom 14-07-2006, 11:46 AM Hehe, I'm guessing that total silence is a 'no'. I wouldn't mind a look at it, but since it's going to be 100% arcade it doesn't really seem worth spending my hard-earned cash on. callaghan 14-07-2006, 12:03 PM 100% arcade? i was under the impression that it was like motogp 3. where you can race in a season and other features like motogp3. mattW. was telling me that the physics are pretty realistic. i am going to try and steal his copy, and try it for my self. Dom 14-07-2006, 01:11 PM Yeah? I have to admit I've only had a quick go on the MotoGP games and always got the impression they were very arcadey. If it is semi-realistic then it might be worth a look. callaghan 14-07-2006, 06:17 PM matt w. and i would play motogp3, and it was insanely arcade like. we wouldnt actually race, but see who could "dirt-track" it around the course the best, or who was sideways the most. it had great entertainment value, just not the simulation we were hoping. matt told me that motogp4 is a cross between sbk and TT. more real than tt, but different, and not quite as real as SBK. Matt W. 16-07-2006, 02:01 AM I'm here. I just finished up the 125GP championship. Won on my first try. :D Though it wasn't easy at times. Anyways.... This game is a mix between TT and SBK2001. I'ts quite hard to describe as each bike {125,250 and MotoGP's} have different characteristics. The physics are there, maybe not as refined as the SBK stuff but much better than TT, IMHO. Brakes are good, and using the rear brake is a option, but doesn't really slow you down any more, just adjust the attitude of the bike into the corner. {once again, much better than TT} The downfall compared to SBK is the fact that the "view" options aren't as good. Something that SBK does very well, as you can see the bike and have better idea of what is going on with it. In MotoGP4 the best option is the "in helmet" view. Which pretty much means that you're wearing a helmet, and you even got tear off's you gotta use, because youre sheild gets nasty. Though the sheild goes dirty way too fast LOL. One thing that I don't like about that view is the fact that although you lean a little bit with the bike, it doesn't really give you that "leaned way the fuck" over feel that SBK does. It just skews a little, I guess they wanted to make sure you can actually see the road. There is a option for "leaning with the bike" view, but I'd think it's way too extreme for most tastes. I like the precision of the controller, very refined, not this general shit that TT is. And not, the bike doesn't weave all over the place at top speed. Speaking of, at top speed the "draft" effect is very well done. On the 125 it's draft wars all the way to the checker flag, just like real 125 races... Speaking of my 125GP Championship, I am a little worried that although I did have some good races, I won the last five races pretty easy, even though I have the game on "Hard" and all my settings are as "realistic" as possible. I walked them at Phillps Island, setting the ple time four seconds faster than the #2 guy. {I do know that track very well from the SBK game...and i do think the tracks in MotoGP are very realistic, even more so than TT as they seem to be more in step with my SBK game.} Then again, I haven't been able to keep up with the WCM on the RCV211V in the MotoGP class, because I can't stop crashing... The 125 rotates very well out of the corner, and the front is dead planet. For a while I thought you couldn't loose the front in the game, but...later on that. The "setting up" part of the bikes still suck. It's very general. Overall though riding the 125 is pretty comical and fun. The 250 is pretty much a pissed off 125. More power, more possibility of highside, but good corner speed. Good fun. I haven't ridden one for too long so far, so I'm not all that sure on how it feels around different race tracks. Then there are the MotoGP bikes... First off, the "dirt track" effect is still there. But it's more controllable, and more realistic now. Now, it pays off just to be drifting a little bit, if you go balls to the wall sideways, you start going across the racetrack like in TT game {where as soon as the wheel spins up you go across the racetrack like there is a magnet in the gravel trap...}. Also you lose drive with lots of wheel spin. Considering the fact the thing has shit load of power, I can see that as being realistic. The throttle is very sensitive, and it's not hard to end up on your ass in the lower couple of gears. The front is okay, but compared to the 125 the corner speed is low {a little too low, I think they went a little overboard...} and you can defenitally highside, and lowside. The rear brake effect seems to less with the bigger bikes. Maybe I just lack skill still... Anyways, I defenitally think the MotoGP 3 game was very arcade like, though with the right set of mind you could have fun with it. With MotoGP 4, the game retaied the fun factor, yet they added a certain lever of credebility to the game that I think will make it fun to play not only a week after you got the game, but months thereafter. And there is nothing quite like comeing out of a corner on a RC211V sideways, with the front wheel foot off the ground while you're trying to get the thing pointed in the general direction of the next corner. lol And last but not least, IMHO of course, this game is loads better, more entertaining and realistic than the new TT game, which seems to be a warmed over version of GT4 with bikes as cars... Sorry guys!!! p.s. Playing with the MotoGP bikes a little more, the "dirt tracking" is getting a little more annoying and pronounced. Not as bad as MotoGP 3, I think... but at the smaller track, it's damn near impossible to keep the wheelspin down. Especially on the crappier bikes like the Suzuki... es nes 16-07-2006, 02:14 AM ps2 or xbox? Matt W. 16-07-2006, 02:16 AM ps2 or xbox? PS2. I've heard the Xbox version is pretty decent too... es nes 16-07-2006, 02:51 AM k ... ive both consoles so if ive any spare cash i might give it a rent. stupid question - is there a photomode? i like pm in tt/gt4 as much as driving  Dom 17-07-2006, 09:16 AM Nice write-up Matt. Makes me tempted to try it out too. callaghan 17-07-2006, 01:26 PM i dont think there is a photo mode, like in TT. Matt W. 17-07-2006, 11:43 PM Nice write-up Matt. Makes me tempted to try it out too. Thanks. Callagahan is going to try it out this week, so he can give you another opinion before you guys go out and spend your hard earned money. As for the "photo mode", they have something like that...but considering I have no clue how the GT4/TT photo thing works, I couldn't compare it to how the MotoGP4 stacks up. :eh: es nes 18-07-2006, 12:33 AM hm ... k ... another question - is there a tuck button? i wouldnt mind as much not having it if the thumbstick was in a square and not a circle. i dont move the riders weight around in tt because in a corner the more weight you put on the front the less steering input you can put in ... drillah 18-07-2006, 02:25 AM Hello, I'm about 3 rounds from completeing my first 125 championship too, doing full lap races. The 125's are a lot of fun and the online with them and the 250's is a blast. The big bikes are still supermoto retarded but I really have only jumped on one or two of the over 100 challenges in the game. I'll move up to a 250 champ after the 125 season and then on to a MGP series. Maybe by then I'll be able to enjoy the bigger bikes and just have fun. There are 3 tracks to unlock I think but not sure which ones...maybe Laguna? I know that the Asia and Euro release did not get it but this game was almost 12 months behind that one. This game is a nice arcade change of pace from sweating it out in SBK or GP500 and I'm not much of a hottlapper so TT was over for me as soon as I finished it. Anyway, if you've got it lets try some online some time. Dom 18-07-2006, 11:44 AM Now I'm confused. I'm the first to admit I don't have a clue about games as I'm not really all that fussed with them these days, but is this (http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=PT2108) the game you're talking about? If so I guess I was wrong in assuming it was pretty new, since that's platinum already? Complete with Aprilias and everything. callaghan 19-07-2006, 04:14 AM as far as i know, the game came out about 2 weeks ago here. so its new to us...in the usa. i may be wrong though. adifferentname 19-07-2006, 06:52 AM Apart from what Matt said a problem I've had with the game is Lag when there are a lot of bikes on the screen. And I wish the hard mode was harder! The sound of some of the MotoGP bikes is great, especially the Honda and Duc's. If the game was harder and it didn't lag it would be awesome, it's gonna be great playing this kind of game online on the PS3. Maybe if you open Legend mode it will be harder. I don't know what you have to do to open legends mode though???? -Decado- 24-07-2006, 07:11 PM Has anyone been able to figure how to get it to work online? Each time a join a game, it kicks me out when the race starts... makes me so mad... Anyways, whats everyones favorite bike in the game? Mine is the Team Kawasaki ZX-RR. Matt W. 27-07-2006, 04:43 PM Has anyone been able to figure how to get it to work online? Each time a join a game, it kicks me out when the race starts... makes me so mad... Anyways, whats everyones favorite bike in the game? Mine is the Team Kawasaki ZX-RR. The Ducati is fun and sounds damn good. The Kawasaki is fun too. The RCV...though fast, isn't all that easy to ride. I actually think the WCM bike isn't all that bad, primarly because it doesn't want to spin up as bad as the others... Same for the KR bike, though it seems to go sideway all of the sudden, then as soon as you pass the "sweet spot", it launches you. I hate the Suzuki. -Decado- 07-08-2006, 12:43 PM Anyway, if you've got it lets try some online some time. I finally got it to work online, whats your name on there? I'm having a blast. callaghan 10-08-2006, 01:29 AM man...i got matts copy of motogp 4, and to me its nothing new. the gp bikes are still a sliding contest (dirt-tracking...), but the 125's and 250's are awesome. i think it still needs a bit more feel to it, but its still a great game. |
