View Full Version : In Game View
CELTIC 29-07-2006, 09:22 AM Just wondering what views we all use to play the game as i have allways used helmet cam, but racing the Nordschleife tried Follow view and immediately cut 6 seconds off my PB :D
I put this 100% down to being able to see further down the track making it easier to pick the correct lines from corner to corner - giving more flow and corner speed.
I mostly used bumper cam in the gran turismo series, but in TT the somehow the follow cam fits much more. I dont have to mention how accurative the helmet cam is when i pull a wheelie or get a stoppie done but maybe if you had enough practice it doesnt matter what view you using while racing.
callaghan 29-07-2006, 05:29 PM ive always used the "cockpit" view, where you can see the gauges (that dont work...the duc's speedo always says like 30 or something...) i cant seem to get into the follow view, and im not even sure what the other view is.
es nes 29-07-2006, 06:58 PM cockpit view here too. more immersive imo.
CELTIC 29-07-2006, 09:05 PM It would be interesting to find out what Stormryder and Uncreated use on the Ring as using helmet cam just feels that much quicker and running the times thier doing you have to give credit where credits due ;)
Follow view just seems soooo much slower in comparison, it may be that this is the first game i've had with the Nordschleife so still learning the course and that follow view enables me to memorise the course easier :)
YES I'm on the steep learning curve - now down to 7:23:xxx and still learning those lines and bumps  My plan is to learn in follow mode and switch back to helmet cam later, i'll get there though - it may take me a couple of weeks to join the Sub 7 club ;)
Any of you seen This Google Video Of Ghostrider around the Ring :D :D 8O

Ussually, it's the Follow view. I switch to cockpit view if I feel the need too. I hope because I'm telling you that I run on Follow mode that it doesnt mean your going to take credit away from me....
es nes 30-07-2006, 02:04 AM when you use the "helmet" cam it helps to look where your going and not where you are ;)
CELTIC 30-07-2006, 10:47 AM No Way Stormryder you have to use whatever works for yourself within the game and that goes for Follow view - Helmet view OR Pro - Semi Pro or any combination you like ;)
I have found in the game that i find the Nordschleife and Laguna easier using Follow View but all other times i'll use Helmet Cam :D
the way i see it anyone running Sub 7 mins deserves credit and there are others getting close to that perfect lap somewhere under 6:50

Cockpit view is my default in every racing game (except Extreme G3; cockpit view is INSANE at mach speeds). Like ES said, it's more immersive. It also gives the best sensation of speed (great morale booster) and cuts down on "view parallax" -- that is, one can generally cut their lines closer to the rumble strips in cockpit view.

I have a video of a guy (Michael something) doing a 6'55 around Nordschliefe in some moderately souped up racecar. I'll up it to Rapidshare for you geeks later.

CELTIC 05-08-2006, 04:19 PM Yeah i agree with you Uncreated about the game play ;)
Follow view just helped due to my inexperience of the track (Nordschleife)
I spent a whole evening the other night watching ghostrider clips on Google Video the man's a lunatic
Heres one of the best (Broadband needed ;) )

I promise you, you will spend many long hours attempting to perfect everything before the first checkpoint, and many more perfecting everything after it. Prepare thyself to be ejected ten thousandfold as you push the bike harder and harder around those first few bends. Super-fast laptimes are completely dependent on you being able to destroy that first 45 seconds.

es nes 05-08-2006, 05:33 PM i lose time from only the first sector on then ;) with the 1L rms ive been generally getting high 43s to mid 44s. low 43s with the 8hour bikes. iirc, my best sector two time is low 1.16 with the cbr rrw or ysp & presto.

That's actually pretty good; mine is 1'15.1xx. My usual times are 1'15.400 to 1'15.800.
The trick is to find a way to take the big incline after the first checkpoint at about 130MPH (very tough) and maintain extremely high revs throughout the following right bend. You should be redlining in fourth gear slightly before the rumblestrip that leads into the long left turn that follows. Right before you reach the next massive jump, you should be at around 193-195MPH reducing to an ideal 135-140 heading into the subsequent left. At the speeds I mentioned above, your bike will be near its absolute limit for those parts of the track.

Haven't played those tracks extensively; I'm the kind to pick a track and play it until nobody, including myself, can go faster in an infinite number of attempts. Just so happens that track is Nordschliefe. Almost there.

My personal best is 1'14.1xx, in my newest time, it's 1'14.9xx. 1'13's are possible, thats no doubt.
And I read you do 130mph... I do around 150mph and almost hit 170 at the top of the hill only to brake hard back down to 130mph. 197mph is my best so far at the second jump.
What's everyones top speed around the left hander at the end of the backstretch? I did 210mph in a 1000RR RM without loosing control or going off the grass.
es nes 05-08-2006, 09:40 PM -sr- : i mean no offence, but, compairing your 6'45 to his 6'49-50 is like compairing apples to oranges at this point. semi-pro has more grip and at a track like nordschliefe where confedence is a everthing, that extra grip pays off big time.
The Uncreated 05-08-2006, 10:26 PM And I read you do 130mph... I do around 150mph [at the first checkpoint] and almost hit 170 at the top of the hill only to brake hard back down to 130mph.
I approach the hill at about 165MPH. I round the top at 135 to 138MPH at most. Unless semi allows one to hit the jump faster, I doubt anyone can exceed 140MPH over it without being catapulted to Kingdom Come. Believe me, I've tried.
Anything higher than about 140 miles per hour over that first hill is fatal in two ways; either you crash or you have to burn off so much speed to avoid running wide that you're overtaken anyway. It just isn't worth it. Seems the two jumps on this track are programmed to be taken at certain maximum speeds; anything higher and the game ejects you from the bike.
What's everyones top speed around the left hander at the end of the backstretch?
198MPH, but based on what I've seen, I take the turns that follow a lot faster than most (I've overtaken ghosts that blaze around the backstretch corner only to be caught and passed by my faster followup speeds; names witheld to protect the innocent). I'm in sixth gear pretty much all the way through the first few turns before downshifting. Helps that my brake power is set near maximum for both front and rear.

Not necessarily. 1'14's are possible even in Pro mode. Only way for you to find out is to try it yourself es nes.

In hundreds of attempts, I've personally never done it.

I pulled a 1'14.70x yesterday. Only took the mighty 7 Honda 8HR to do it. I feel like a cheater using that bike. :)
