What with this talk of Super-Bikes, just thought I'd bring up a few of the past and see what ones you lot have enjoyed..

Suzuka 8 Hour: Arcade only game but was the first proper bike racing game as far as I know. And had the awesome replica bike/controller set up.

First one I owned was on the Megadrive I think, good ol' Super Hang On. Legendary game but I was shite at it.

Road Rash. Ooh yeah, chains and baseball bats, beating up policemen and racing bikes if you found the time  Decent game but a bit limited..

GP500: Ach, never got in with this. Think it was based on the '98 500 season but with it being on PC and me not having a controller, I never got on with it.

Superbike 2000: Finally my prayers answered and a WSB game but it was pretty shite looking back.

Ducati World: Ah, finally a half decent game, and with real road bikes. Again though, it was a bit shite looking back but at least applied the Gran Turismo forumla (licenses, money etc) to bikes.

The MotoGP series: Now we're talking. First one I got was the 2nd and while are very good games are by no means perfect. Havn't played the X-Box versions with the 'extreme' racing though.

Tourist Trophy: Well I was gonna get this or TT Superbikes and I think I made the right decision. Could be improved upon but a damn good game none the less. Just hope number 2 will be even better (like with baseball bats and police in it).

Yeah I missed some out but I think they're all the ones I've played/owned. Anyway, favourites/happy memories/hopes for the future and all that jazz?

All of those are fairly tits except for GP500/MotoGP (same developer IIRC) and of course TT. GP500 was the first bike game to really do the sport justice, while MotoGP made it fun and accessible. The Xbox versions of MotoGP to me aren't as good as the Namco versions because the handling is very weird for a newcomer and the graphics are the usual 'Xbox headache' fare. But Kazunori Yamauchi has been quoted as saying that he prefers the Xbox games over the PS2 games.

Hopefully with the next TT, they will really crank on the simulation side of things with more setup and modifcation options (one thing I like with GT4 is the ability to create a look-a-like of a cool car you saw that day), a good online code and better AI.

I used to play a PC game called Manx TT, which was a racer with generic brand bikes in them. By today's standards it's quite low end, but it ran with some of the best framerates and speed sensations I've seen in a racing game. Wasn't so much a simulator as it was an arcade game.

In related matters, I own and thoroughly enjoy Extreme G 3. It's a futuristic motorcycle racer for the PS2 that has got to be the absolute fastest racing game ever. Nothing I've ever played holds a candle to it in terms of raw, visceral speed. Breaking sound barriers? No problem. Even has the accompanying sonic boom. I highly recommend it.

Anyone remember Sega's Hang On?

Namcos cyber cycles (arcade) was good if not overally simplist. you sat on a bike and had brake and throttle controlls. you leaned the bike to turn. there were three bikes, a futurist looking bike that handled stupidly well but didnt accelerate very low and had the lowst top speed. then there was the "generic" 750 sport bike which was the middle ground and the last bike was a cruiser using a motard riding style but was the fastest in a straightline.

then there was the namco motogp arcade game with counter steering handle bars, bike leaning, throttle and brake quater eating machine. unfortinately i only saw it places that were part restraunt/bar&grill/arcade so i only got to play it once unfortinately.

This is in my workshop. I have the current MotoGP lap record at Jerez beat by 0.074 sec.

i know this is off topic but,

has anyone played the new game that's just come out yet ? Superbike Challenge or sumik like that ?

road rash rocked !

still only played 2 realistic bike games. love TT & TT Superbikes - the rest are pretty much pants.

is there a TT2 in the pipeline or are we just speculating ? i hope so but i'm not sure where they could take it ? i found Gran Turismo a bit repetitive after a while - it only needs on-line play and it would be almost perfect.:)

And you actually get work done?

Red Frog posted up his thoughts on it here:

I managed to play one of the tutorials for all of 5 minutes before it crashed. :(

Superbike 2001 for PC.

Best bike game ever. Hard as hell at first {on "real" settings}, but once you get a hang of it, it is about as real as it's gonna get without doing the real thing. IMHO. I still play the game on weekly basis. Four years after buying...
