The tyre companies agreed back at Donnington to limit the tyres they provide to a rider in a weekend, and this has now been adopted by the FIM - see the atthekerbside story (http://www.atthekerbside.com/story.aspx?storyID=223). Will this mean a stop to the tyre companies making specialist tyres for an event, like they do now?
By this I mean using Friday and Saturday data to fiddle with the compound, making a 'special' tyre and shipping it out to the race on the Sunday.

There's more on the detail of the regs here:

nah, there will always be these "specialist" tyres available. money talks. and when you have a lot of money, you can get what you want. if you want to win, especially if you want to win consistantly, then you will get the tyre that allows you to do just that.

that just my opinion.

There's a pretty good write-up on the new rules 'n regs here: http://www.cyclenews.com/ShowStory.asp?HeadlineID=9952

But in short:

No more 'night before' flyover tyres
Doesn't apply to Dunlop (or any other manufacturer who's tyres have not yet won a race) so that should hopefully make them a bit more competitive and possibly encourage more manufacturers to consider coming into GP.

Probably good news imo.

so then, as soon as dunpop wins a race, they cant do anymore "next day" tyres? that should be interesting.

Probably good news imo.
Thanks for that Dom. I reckon the aim of the regs is partly to give Dunlop a chance of competing with the big boys, and partly as the headlines say to save cash.

With any luck it will make a difference, too. It'd be fantastic to see the Dunlops in the same league as everyone else.
