View Full Version : If TT2 is a 'pay to ride' game...

ala GT5 (or whatever they're calling it), would you bother?

Is anyone actually happy to pay for each bike and track they get access to?

(And on a related note: Aren't massive blue ray discs a waste when the original disc will contain nothing other than 2 tracks and a scooter?)

Do you mean pay in credits in the game itself or pay real money?

I voted not a chance, but I really don't know how much it will be. If the game is $.01 and the bikes are about $.10 I might consider it. Course that means I need to buy a PS3 then and I'd rather put $700 towards that new Daytona 675 I've been drooling over.

Far as the BD goes I haven't seen any transfer rates, but if they aren't much higher than DVD transfers then yes I find it a giant waste.

Not a Chance by me also

If i buy a game i want the full game all current tracks and bikes as now.

I would only buy add ons such as new bikes out and new tracks that were coded and released as the game evolved such as tracks used in MotoGP, BSB, AMA etc and special tracks such as Isle of man TT and other road racing tracks as they race in ireland

I may purchase current racing skins for the bikes but only if they were really cheap such as 50 pence or so cause even at that price they would make a mint ( 1 of Rossi's Special paint schemes would probably fetch them 1 Mil in downloads alone worldwide ) not bad for a weeks work by a graphics artist $$ ;)

If they drip feed us a whole game they can stick the PS3 where the sun don't shine

Can you imagine Pro Evo Football where you had to purchase individual players :?

Wait I dont really understand the concept...

If they release GT5 (or w/e its called)... will there be no content? Or will there be a small selection of content and if you want more you go out and buy it?

Well.... it wouldnt be so bad as long as they dont release another game. Bassically my point to this is that you can just constantly keep upgrading.

Transcript From IGN

GT HD will include two main modes of play, Sony revealed earlier this week. Classic mode is basically Gran Turismo 4 running in 1080p along with a few other visual enhancements. The focus of this mode is on online play. Players race one-another online and purchase cars and tracks for a few dollars each. This mode won't include any courses and tracks from the start.

In comparison, those who want a more offline-oriented experience will be able to try out Premium mode. In addition to offering an early glimpse at the Gran Turismo 5 graphics engine (the actual GT5 won't be released until 2008), this mode will include 30 cars and 2 brand-new tracks right out of the box.

Sony clarified at TGS that Premium mode itself will have downloads. Players will be able to download 30 additional cars and a couple of additional tracks at the time of the game's release. The timing of these downloads suggests that they will not be free.

Development on Gran Turismo HD is currently at the 70% mark. A Japanese release is set for December.

The only good thing about this is that games will be released a lot quicker mabe 6 months instead of 2 years as content will come later which is a mixed blessing :?

Example :- Ferrari License

Yamauchi also touched upon the new Ferrari license that came to light earlier this week. Ferrari cars will not only appear in GT HD, but starting half a year from now and continuing for a period of a year, Polyphony Digital and Ferrari will engage in collaborative marketing efforts.

the way i see it, the game's basic layout would be free, or real cheap. (think no tracks or bikes or leathers...etc.) if each track costs x, and each bike costs y, etc...when you add them all up, if the total is the same cost as buying the current version (with everything on the disc), then i would buy it. it will be just like buying the game, but having the ability to "upgrade" later. the price of the upgrades will be the same as the first track, or bike bought. so if each track costs a dollar, then the upgrade tracks could be bought for a dolllar (or whatever price).

I agree, my only problem is the PS3 is so exspensive.

What the hey? *double take*

I thought this was GT5. Forget that, cheap bitches. They can take their gold diggin expansion pack and shove it, I don't really like GT4 in the first place.

Looks like PD's car list with fifty Civics is kicking them right in the jimmy. I'll take Forza 2 thanks. Maybe I won't be able to drive a 1965 Dingle Berry with soft top and 5 speed tranny in two tone champagne and gold that they only made 2 prototypes and one died in a fire sparked by aliens, but at least it's a new game.

Nice idea, but from what has been said so far that's not even close to being the case:

Though the Classic moniker may stem from the fact that you're getting a high resolution PS2 game, you may distinctly recall the original game actually giving you hundreds upon hundreds of cars for your $50. Not so with this version. Every car and every track may be purchased and downloaded from Sony's online network. The interview mentions a price of 50-100 yen per vehicle ($0.43 - $0.85) and 200 - 500 yen per track ($1.71 - $4.26). Being generous and sticking to the low end of the scale results in $408 spent if you want all 750 cars and all 50 tracks (roughly what you got in Gran Turismo 4). Moving up on the scale approaches values that surpass what you paid for the PS3 (newsflash: a lot) to begin with.

Insane, no?

Lmao. Pretty much sums it up, I'd say.

Btw one of the head honchos at Sony apparently came out with a quote saying that the PS3 should have a 10 year product lifespan. If that's even close to true then I'm quite happy to wait a year and pick one up second hand for 1/3rd of the release price. (If I bother at all)

While GT HD's reliance on micro transactions came to light earlier in the week, Yamauchi let slip a few specifics regarding Sony's download plans for the game and, potentially, other online PlayStation titles. Sony will host a PlayStation Store service, Yamauchi revealed. This store will be accessible from the PlayStation 3's main menu. For GT-HD, this is where you'll be able to purchase new cars and tracks.

Downloads will be included in both the premium and classic modes of play. The premium mode, as we mentioned in an earlier article, will include 30 cars and 2 courses from the start. Available for download at launch, according to Sony's official press materials, will be one new course and 30 additional cars. Yamauchi revealed at the talk event that premium-grade cars and courses will continue to be added in the future for download.

For classic mode, the number of potential downloads is staggering. Users will be able to download 770 cars, 51 courses and 4,500 items. These numbers are end targets though. At the start of service, only 51 "items" will be available for download. Yamauchi did not give specifics on how this number breaks down.

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/734/734938p1.html

4500 Possible Items at this rate the games going to cost a couple of hundred Quid even if they sell content off in blocks :?

This is just the start even if they state these are end targets i mean can you see them pass up the development of the latest new skin or the latest top sports car that just happens to be the Buzz at that particular time.

I did read somewhere but it may be to do with the Xbox 360 that games developers were working with car manufacturers to use the original CAD Drawings to develop in game cars to make the develpment process a lot faster.

Well... I think I made up my mind...

@#&* you PD!

I think the 360 or PC wont be so stupidly innovative. I think I'll buy me a 360 and Forza/Halo 3.

Thinking about it I wouldn't be surprised if this move resulted in some 'next gen' warez, as well. After all, how hard can it be to download the extra files from usenet/bittorrent/anywhere and stick them on the PS2 hard drive?

If I'd paid £30-40 for the game already I certainly wouldn't feel the least bit guilty about doing that.

Hell yeah Red, I never liked the fact they had so many cars that I really didn't want to drive anyway. I'd much rather get a 360 and Forza 2. I've always been disappointed by GT in the fact that they've never tried to make it a racing game (larger fields, flags, real time weather effects, ect.) instead of a driving simulator. I don't need to know what it would be like to drive some shitting car at grandma speeds around a city circuit. I want to race cars that I could never own on circuits I'll probably never go to. I know we're all mostly into motorcycles but if your interested in a REAL race simulator, get NetKar Pro for the PC. That has to be the most realistic game I've played in both graphics and physics. All the buttons on the steering wheel in the game you can actually switch w/ the mouse. And if you make setup changes in the pits, you have to wait while they're performed (just like in real life). But to hell with GT5 if they're going to spoon feed us this crap

i think if this does fall through, then they will realize after no one buys anything that they made a huge mistake. like isaid earlier, i would buy it if the price of the game remains about what it is now. then, at the set price for each "item" you can continue to upgrade your game. that would be sweet, especially if more real tracks came out, say like barber...of course it might only be of interest to a certain percentage of people, but then you could buy what you were interested in.

You buy a superb PC simulator for $30 and then you download patches - and the mod community supports you for free.

PGR3 on the XBox360 has pretty much died right where they left it - a few car updates at "pay to play " but no new tracks etc.

And they are already well on the way to develop PGR4.

So of Sony/PD really pursue this stupid approach, then they will see their market place dry up.

WOuld you really consider a game with 700 cars and 100 tracks that cost a hundred dollars by the time you bough them all?

I think not.. so if the total cost is less than $40 - then great, but if the updates and add ons take too long to produce, chances are you will get borad wit the game and shelve it before all the content was available.

We already know Sony and PD's track record for "releasing things on time".

Maybe Sony sees all the "pay to play" money from EeverQuest etc and think they can do the same with PS3... but the beauty of PS2 games complete on disc was that they are just that - complete on disc with no need for patches ;)
