I'm not exactly in the know when it comes to technical talk but it looks pretty good, though not exactly what you'd expect from Ducati (fairing and front looks quite ZX-R-y to me). Everyone goes on about going back to the look of the 916 but that can't/won't be beaten. Still though, sounds f'n fast.
Will be interesting to see what the supersport counterpart will be like.

interesting, but, how are they going to race it anywhere?

Well, put it this way: How will WSBK fare if Ducati doesn't compete?
Duc have stated that they don't particularly care if SBK doesn't homologate the 1098, so if they don't, then Ducati won't.
But about the bike,
red paint = good,
trellis-frame = good,
V-twin = really good,
'Shorter stroke and massive bore' = extremely good.
I can picture small birds being sucked into those intakes.

it supposedely weighs ten pounds less than the new 07 r1. has 150 odd hp...the real threat will be in club racing, ama etc...if this thing can race against the other twins...light heavyweight and other classes, it will be so dominant, it will turn into another ducati series.
its nice to see the single arm back in action.

The regulations are changing in World Superbikes in '08 to allow twins upto a 1199 capacity.
Guessing domestic series will follow suit.

MCN (Motor Cycle News) has a 6 page special and the plan is to bring out an 'R' version and bore it out to a 1198 for the 08 SBK Series :D but retain the 1098 Name.
And get this just for you boys across the pond in the good old US of A the Engine is in fact a 1099 but Ducati decided not to use this as it is a well known Hated Tax Form and by using 1098 it gives a link to the 998 rather than the 999
The latest insights from MoreCrapthanNews? Sounds believable but I still would still take it with a healthy barrel of salt.
I totally agree on the styling 'cues' front though. They might as well call it the Daytona 1098.

I don't care what anybody says. That bike is sick looking! The fact that they lowered the price for a base model is good too. I may actually be able to get one now, LOL. I really like the single swing arm being put back in place. I like the Desmo mirriors too. It looks like an MV Agusta F41000 and a Triumph 675 had a one nite stand, LOL. If I had to be picky about anything; it would be the exhaust. It looks dated. I think they should have kept the under seat can. It would have made the bike look so much sleeker. I edited a pwall aper in Photoshop and it looke great. However, I am no engineer and the dual cans may add more power or something. Non the less I want one now!!!!!
