View Full Version : FAO Spammers Dom 16-11-2006, 10:44 AM Please sod off. :wall: There are now as many deleted spam topics in the general racing forum as there are legit ones! callaghan 16-11-2006, 03:03 PM is it mostly the general section that gets it, cuz thats where ive been seeing them. 'priciate you keeping them clean! maybe renaming that section might help keep them away? Rare White Ape 17-11-2006, 09:26 AM You could try banning new registrations with free email providers, or admin-approved user activation. Dom 17-11-2006, 10:50 AM For now I don't want to introduce anything that makes it harder for legit folks to sign up. I've got some plans for some fairly big changes here soon though (;)) and hopefully will be able to make things a little harder for spammers there. callaghan 17-11-2006, 12:58 PM You could try banning new registrations with free email providers, or admin-approved user activation. that would be me. ive got a free yahoo account. check this out. the 6th section down. (http://www.echodrivers.com/forums/) it seems to have worked pretty well. Dom 20-11-2006, 06:20 PM Right I give up; lets try this new forum name idea. Any suggestions? callaghan 20-11-2006, 06:52 PM racing in general, anything racing, anything but MotoGP. you could have a "racing" forum, then with sub forums, have "MotoGP", and "Not MotoGP". maybe a little lame, but it might work. es nes 21-11-2006, 12:56 AM that would be me. ive got a free yahoo account. i got 100 gmail invites just laying around doing nothing if youd like one  callaghan 21-11-2006, 03:18 AM nah, i appreciate it though. i also have a comcast account (paid with my cable modem and service.) i just dont like dealing with that one, cause it takes 10 minutes to get to the page to check my mail. yahoo takes 2 seconds. Dom 21-11-2006, 04:17 PM Just realised that I had email address verification turned off. Now people can only sign up with a legit email address and I've also upgraded the forum software. A spam free MGPB in the future? *crosses fingers* callaghan 21-11-2006, 04:25 PM that would be cool. Dom 21-11-2006, 04:30 PM We've also got a few new tricks to play with. Try clicking the http://www.motogpboards.com/images/buttons/multiquote_off.gif button on 2 or more posts then clicking the post reply button. S'magic. callaghan 22-11-2006, 03:59 AM whats with the :? face?it doesnt seem to work.:? its the : ? one. it just turns up blank. Dom 22-11-2006, 09:19 AM Ooops. Must've uploaded the default smilies by accident. Will have it sorted in a sec... Edit: Okay not quite sure what happened, but it's fixed now. es nes 23-11-2006, 09:58 PM i think you should let me have mod'ing powers over all of the TT and racing forums as well ;) http://www.motogpboards.com/showthread.php?t=720 http://www.motogpboards.com/showthread.php?t=719 Dom 24-11-2006, 09:30 AM Can't see anything mate, what was it? ;) es nes 24-11-2006, 10:48 AM oh, nothing interesting at all! Dom 11-12-2006, 11:32 AM Right, time to try some new toys. :P As of today you have to answer an incredibly difficult question such as "how many wheels on a motorbike?" to be allowed to register. This should hopefully cut down on the robots registering who obviously are capable of reading the image verification thingy. Additionally if someone's first post contains anything about drugs, credit cards, or any of the usual crap then it will be automatically hidden and I'll be able to manually 'review' it (i.e. throw it in the bin and ban the evil spammer). If for some reason a legit first post gets hit by this then I will just give it the okay and it will appear as normal. This'll only apply to first posts so it shouldn't be a major headache for anyone. Apart from spammers, with any luck. :P Dom 11-12-2006, 12:54 PM Just as I think I'm making progress here one of my other sites goes and gets hacked. Lovely way to start the week. callaghan 11-12-2006, 02:46 PM cant win for losing, eh? one of your other sites? you have a bunch of them? oh, did you send me an email the other day? i browse my spam mail everynow and then, and i saw a "Dom" in there, but i clicked on the "empty" button a little too quickly...(out of habit) Dom 11-12-2006, 04:48 PM Yeah since I'm a web designer I do have a fair few. Two of my sites were affected, one being MotoReview and the other being my portfolio site. There was a vulnerability in 2 bits of software on the server and they've now been patched up and deleted respectively. I've still got a fair bit of work on my hands just making sure that nothing else dodgy got onto the server during the whole thing. :( I did reply to one of your reported posts a few days back, so that could've been the email. es nes 12-12-2006, 01:35 AM aww ... how im i supposed to check on the status of fmy mail order bride now that youve deleted it? Dom 12-12-2006, 09:28 AM Sorry dude. :P callaghan 12-12-2006, 02:55 PM aww ... how im i supposed to check on the status of fmy mail order bride now that youve deleted it? should have book marked it man. thats what i did. [j/k] es nes 12-12-2006, 09:20 PM Sorry dude. :P thats okay, id probably have to end up shaving arm pits myself ;) callaghan 13-12-2006, 03:27 AM well, you might as well shave other areas too then... es nes 13-12-2006, 04:11 AM yeah, i know, but i wanted to spare some of the unesacary details ;) |
