There are now as many deleted spam topics in the general racing forum as there are legit ones!

is it mostly the general section that gets it, cuz thats where ive been seeing them. 'priciate you keeping them clean! maybe renaming that section might help keep them away?

You could try banning new registrations with free email providers, or admin-approved user activation.

For now I don't want to introduce anything that makes it harder for legit folks to sign up. I've got some plans for some fairly big changes here soon though (;)) and hopefully will be able to make things a little harder for spammers there.

nah, i appreciate it though. i also have a comcast account (paid with my cable modem and service.) i just dont like dealing with that one, cause it takes 10 minutes to get to the page to check my mail. yahoo takes 2 seconds.

Just realised that I had email address verification turned off. :doh: Now people can only sign up with a legit email address and I've also upgraded the forum software. A spam free MGPB in the future? *crosses fingers*

As of today you have to answer an incredibly difficult question such as "how many wheels on a motorbike?" to be allowed to register. This should hopefully cut down on the robots registering who obviously are capable of reading the image verification thingy.

Additionally if someone's first post contains anything about drugs, credit cards, or any of the usual crap then it will be automatically hidden and I'll be able to manually 'review' it (i.e. throw it in the bin and ban the evil spammer). If for some reason a legit first post gets hit by this then I will just give it the okay and it will appear as normal. This'll only apply to first posts so it shouldn't be a major headache for anyone. Apart from spammers, with any luck. :P

oh, did you send me an email the other day? i browse my spam mail everynow and then, and i saw a "Dom" in there, but i clicked on the "empty" button a little too quickly...(out of habit)

Yeah since I'm a web designer I do have a fair few. Two of my sites were affected, one being MotoReview and the other being my portfolio site. There was a vulnerability in 2 bits of software on the server and they've now been patched up and deleted respectively. I've still got a fair bit of work on my hands just making sure that nothing else dodgy got onto the server during the whole thing. :(

I did reply to one of your reported posts a few days back, so that could've been the email.
