View Full Version : happy plucking thanks giving! es nes 23-11-2006, 03:43 PM  Dom 23-11-2006, 03:52 PM That today? Something about turkeys, is it? Funny things you Americans. ;) callaghan 23-11-2006, 03:56 PM ben franklin's favorite bird was a turkey. i think it became the national bird for a little while. ugly things they are, but they taste real good, especially with a little wine, ok, a lot of wine...lol. i am currently making some sweet potato casserole with bourbon and topped with mini marshmallows. will have stuffing (dressing or whatever else you can call it) , obviously a turkey, and plenty of other dishes, like cranberry sauce, pickled beets, corn on the cobb...yummy. happy turkey day to everyone. i take it this day is a national holiday only. i thought it was, but wasnt ever sure. doesnt make much sense for other countries to celebrate it though. es nes 23-11-2006, 04:06 PM we arent have turkey here, were having breaded porkchops ... meh, theyre always so dry. but, im on the first day of my 4 day weekend so  Dom 23-11-2006, 04:13 PM Haven't had a bank holiday or anything like that over here for ages it seems. No fair. According to wikipedia it's something to do with celebrating the end of the harvest season. So it definitely wouldn't make any sense over here, as we either import our food or have it growing it little bubble/tunnel thingies in fields 365 days of the year. callaghan 23-11-2006, 04:15 PM you can try these if you want, they are quick and juicy: 4 pork chops, 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick salt and pepper, to taste 1 egg 3 tablespoons milk 1/2 cup flour 1/4 cup vegetable oil you may need a little more flour... Sprinkle pork chops with salt and pepper. Heat oil in a heavy skillet. Whisk egg and milk together in a shallow bowl. Dip each pork chop in the egg mixture then coat in flour. Fry in the hot oil for about 4 to 6 minutes on each side, until they are nice and browned. you can substitute bread crumbs for the flour, but again, you may need a little more. makes 4 chops. es nes 23-11-2006, 05:18 PM thanks, but, thankfully im not the one cooking! |
